What is a tongue tie?
The medical term for a tongue-tie is “ankyloglossia,” and it can be hereditary. For 5-10% of babies, the tongue and mouth separation during pregnancy might not go as planned, leading to a short piece of tissue under the tongue (lingual frenulum). This can affect how well the tongue moves, impacting things like eating and breathing, even in little ones.
Diagnosing and treating should be based on real functional limitation issues. Seeing a frenulum under the tongue does not mean it is restricting the tongue’s range of motion! Thorough feeding assessments conducted by dentists like Dr. Patel at Nurturing Ties are key to getting crucial insights into a baby’s oral motor skills and determining adequate treatment.

Our approach to tongue tie treatment
Laser Frenectomy
Frenectomy is a precise procedure to release tongue-ties, enhancing breastfeeding and overall infant health.
The CO2 laser: a leap forward for infant frenectomy
The CO2 laser has changed the way we treat lip and tongue ties in babies. It’s more precise, less painful, and safer than the old methods. The laser is gentle, causing less swelling and bleeding, making it more comfy for little ones.
This means fewer chances of infections and a faster recovery so that babies can get back to normal feeding sooner. Plus, getting the CO2 laser treatment on time helps babies grow well and develop good speech in the long run!

- Initial Consultation Fee: The fee for the initial consultation is $150. This consultation is crucial for assessing your baby's specific needs and discussing the best course of action.
- Release Procedure Fee: The release procedure (tongue-tie, lip-tie, or both) costs $800, covering the procedure and unlimited post-op visits to monitor progress, check for reattachment, and address any concerns. We recommend a follow-up about a week post-procedure.
- Cost Adjustment: If you decide to proceed with the release procedure after the consultation, the initial $150 consultation fee will be credited toward the total cost of the release. Essentially, the consultation fee will be deducted from the release procedure fee.
